Big news this year for Chicago Fair Trade: we passed an ordinance in Chicago that will restrict the use of sweatshops in the production of apparel purchased by the city.

That’s right, you can celebrate with us and help raise funds to keep this important work going! Now that the ordinance is passed, CFT will be working with the city to set up the rules and implement the program. And, after that’s done, we’ll set our sights on the county, and the park district, and the schools – wherever tax dollars are being used to purchase garments. So, how can you help and have a super-fun time doing it? Globalfest!

We’re raising $ for Chicago Fair Trade with a party at the National Museum of Mexican Art in Pilsen. The event includes yummy South American food, open bar with signature fair trade cocktails, a silent auction with really really good prizes including this obsession-worthy leather jacket, DJ Vextrux spinning beats from Chile to Mali, Jamaica to México, a raffle where you could win an original piece of art from famed artist Michael Hernandez de Luna, and exclusive access to the Day of the Dead exhibit.

You can purchase tickets at the door. Regular price is $60 and the student rate is $35. The Mata crew will be there and we look forward to partying with you! #PartyforaCause

Oh, and one more thing…there will be FREE PARKING available the night of the event at Orozco Academy, located at Damen & 18th. The entrance to the lot is on 17th St, just east of Damen. Although, if you plan to take full advantage of the open bar, you’ll be happy to know that the museum is close to the pink line el stops.
