In March, the Fair Trade Federation held its annual conference in Denver, Colorado.
Maureen, Mata's founder, gave a keynote address the first day of the conference. Her speech was focused on the challenges, both internal and external, that business owners face and how to approach those challenges in the changing retail landscape.

On the stage, Maureen was joined by Nasreen Sheikh, a young anti-sweatshop advocate who shared her emotional story of escaping that world. She is now running her own social enterprise to empower and educate Nepali women, including her younger sister who is following in her footsteps.
