GINGHAM STYLE AND OTHER SPRING TRENDS

Can you believe spring is coming? Hi everyone! My name is Hyunmin, and I’m an intern at Mata Traders all the way from Korea. I’m not used to this endless snow here in Chicago. It’s hard to believe that soon it will be green again! In spring, I’m always so excited to try to do something new. It’s time to take your heavy coat off and wear something new for spring! Why not try a style you have never tried? Here’s some ideas based on the top spring trends for 2015.

Gingham

Gingham has made a strong fashion statement since the 60’s, and it’s come back again for Spring 2015. Oscar de la Renta put gingham on crop tops and dresses this season (shown right). Bold gingham can look heavy, but if it’s a bright color like baby pink or sky blue, it looks perfect for spring. With a plunging neckline, Mata’s ‘Picnic dress’ (shown left) is sweet, yet daring, and offers the chance to showcase your favorite necklace.

Lemon Yellow

Every bright color goes great with spring, and we see lots of lemon yellow on the runway this season. Alexander Wang used it in his spring collection (shown right). Lemon yellow is very bright, maybe even a little too bright. Sometimes it feels like too much. If you feel this way, start with bringing in a touch of lemon yellow with your jewelry. Mata Traders rolled out some new yellow pieces this spring like the ‘Color Wheel necklace’ (shown left) and ‘Bombay Bib necklace’.

Floral Prints

I can’t talk about spring fashion without mentioning floral prints. It seems like there were even more floral dresses on the runway than usual this spring. Chanel showed floral with a modern touch (shown right). If you want to channel your femininity this spring, try the floral ‘Laurel Canyon dress’from Mata (shown left)!

Shirtdresses

Many sporty and comfortable shirtdresses have debuted for spring. Kate Spade presented a short shirtdress for a cute, active look (shown right). With the ‘Shanti shirtdress’ from Mata you’re in for some official fun (shown left)! A polka dot pattern, yellow piping at the pocket, and coconut shell buttons all the way down – it’s your go anywhere, do anything dress. It also comes in a colorful pear print.

Ankle Strap Shoes

Ankle straps are everywhere this season. I saw lots of strappy shoes at New York Fashion Week for Spring 2015. Taoray Wang showed various looks with ankle straps in her collection (shown right). Mata also showed the trend while styling the Spring ’15 catalog. Our sundresses look fabulous with ankle strap sandals, like the ‘Color Crush dress’ (shown left). It doesn’t matter if your ankle straps are heels or sandals or flats or platforms – they all do the trick to flatter. Why do they flatter so well? A strap draws attention to the ankle, which is typically the thinnest part of the leg. If you pair the “Color Crush dress” with strappy shoes and a jean jacket, you’ll have the perfect feminine fashion for spring.
