‘Maids in Mata

Wedding season is here, and with the historic Supreme Court ruling on Friday, this season might turn out to be even more wedding-filled than ever! You remember me, Hyunmin, Mata’s intern from Korea (I posted about World Fair Trade Day last month!). When I researched American weddings, I was surprised to learn how different they are from Korean weddings– especially the bridesmaids. To me, it’s particularly interesting to see all the bridesmaids wearing the same dress!

Some past examples of bridesmaids in Mata– it creates quite the statement!
The Leona dress is a great, classic option from our fall collection.

With the arrival of our adorable, vintage-y spring collection, we have some styling suggestions for inspiration on how to fair trade your bridesmaids this season. Compared to the typical bridesmaid dress, a Mata dress is more casual, bright, and most importantly– more practical! They’re perfect for everyday wear even after the wedding. Why not give one a try?

A little black dress is always chic and so elegant– great for any occasion like a wedding, a graduation, or even a summer picnic. Our black Daydream dress has an intricate print and is 100% cotton, so you can stay cool all summer long.  For a wedding, a dark dress really makes a bride’s dress stand out, especially when you throw on some striking linear jewelry (our black Common Thread earringsand gold Athena Cuff fit the bill).

Coral creates a fabulous vibe for beach weddings.  The Daydream dress in coral adds a touch of femininity, and the cap sleeve makes it comfy. Keep your look  lovely and effortless by pairing the dress with nude and gold accessories, like our Round the Bend earrings or the Wind and Water ring.

Mint has been a favorite color for weddings for several years now. With it’s gorgeous, clean look, the Seneca dress is a great choice for a summer garden wedding. Keep it simple by wearing white Pointed Arrow earrings and a silver Narrow Sea bracelet.

Not planning a wedding yourself, but have one to attend on the horizon? Check out our spring collection for fun, flirty, occasion-ready dresses.
